Why our email builder is beautiful and solves a hard problem is addressed here

The release this week addresses two things:

  1. Why make free tools at all?
  2. What can make the paid version really compelling for our users?

One of my big learnings running Wafrow so far is that if the purchase decision is made by a single person, time to sell reduces from weeks to minutes. Free tools which a marketer can use with no permissions from their billing or engineering department converts users to advocates. It probably would be obvious to someone with extensive B2B experience, it was a mistake I was making and happy to correct promptly.

People pay for double thank you moments. In case you're unfamiliar with the analogy, if you walk into a cafe and order your favorite brew, once the barista hands over the cup, both of you say thank you to each other. Both people are happy in the transaction. In the case of this feature, paying $19 a month for an email builder which can be customized for your brand colours and auto-translated into 9 languages does three things:

  1. Save thousands of dollars in copywriting costs
  2. Gives people a great output which is ready to fire in seconds that can make campaigns go-live now, not in 2 weeks. Even if firms add a manual verification step, it's significantly fast
  3. Generates revenue by working across a long-tail of email clients that have their own idiosyncracies. Two instances: image-only emails don't work as well in apple mail that blocks image loading till the user presses a button. Gmail changes all colours in dark mode which renders some emails unreadable.
